I have painted my whole life. At a young age of 9 or 10, I rode my bike around to paint local scenes. I still love painting en plein air. There’s just something about being outside, soaking in the scenery, and letting the natural light guide each brushstroke. I also approach my paintings alla prima, letting each brushstroke flow instinctively, capturing the essence of the moment in a single, uninterrupted session—no overworking, no layering, just pure, spontaneous expression on the canvas.
After graduating high school in Hutchinson, Kansas, I joined the United States Navy from 1974 - 1980. Afterwards, I worked at Singer Link from 1980-1991. In 2005, after studying at Broome Community College (now SUNY Broome) and Binghamton University, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development (Art Therapy) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. While earning my degrees, I also studied printmaking, sculpture, photography and portrait. I earned awards in both schools.
I am very proficient in all mediums from watercolor to oils, acrylics, charcoal, colored pencil, 2D and 3D design & sculpture.
Although its not my motivation for my art, I am very proud of the many awards I have won over the years. I've earned awards from FASST, BCAC, Colorscape, July Fest, Montrose, Owego, Roberson, etc.
